ArtKorero is proud to present British artist Debra Franses, also known as ArtBag. Having exhibited her work in cities around the world, the acclaimed creative brings her one-of-a-kind resin works, shaped like popular handbags, to Dubai for the first time. When confronted by an Artbag you are seeing a moment in time where seemingly random objects float motionless, encased in a transparent crystalline bag.
With a golden gun, gold chains and perfume, this Artbag is simultaneously delicate and dangerous, conjuring up the impressions of a glamorous and ruthless female spy, akin to those in the old James Bond movies in which the artist, Debra, was so invested as a child. This work was partially inspired by memories of her Dad returning home from trips with luxurious jewellery to give as presents to her mother and herself.
